Torture 101:
New basic training course
In response to the Bush administration's commands,
Congress has opened the way to legitimize torture, as well
as detention without time limit and without time or trial.
The Army says that torture will now be included
as part of all basic training in order to carry out the requests
of the Commander-in-Chief.
The "Military Commissions Act of 2006"
confers on the President the "authority" to "interpret
the significance and applicabilityof the Geneva Conventions"
banning torture and defining the rules of war, motably the
rules relevant too the treatment of prisoners.
The accused cannot claim the right to choose
his defense counsel, nor can he know the charges against him,
or, if the need arises, the nature of the evidence brought
against him. Able to be detaied without time limit, there
is not even any right to demand a trial.
In an unrelated story, Miami real estate brokers
are reporting that thousands of foreign nationals who own
condos throughout Florida have placed those properties on
the market.
